Fast Growth Medical Device Company - Lead/Sole Counsel UK/Ireland -  Based Birmingham, UK

Our client is a dynamic, innovative and fast growth global medical device company. They have now created an exciting new position of Sole Counsel for the UK & Ireland Region. This role is to be based in Birmingham, West Midlands, reports to a Senior EMEA Counsel and will be supported by colleagues in the EMEA legal team and external counsels.

 

As the Lead Counsel UK & Ireland you will contribute to the company’s success by supporting all aspects of UK & Ireland area operations and will advise the commercial and functional leaders broadly on commercial, corporate, regulatory, competition, and compliance issues. This will include the review of marketing and sales programs, contract drafting and review, compliance programs and general legal support and advice.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead responsibility for all sales, marketing, distribution, compliance and customer-facing legal matters / need for legal support in UK and Ireland.

  • Provide high quality legal and strategic advice and day-to-day support to the UK and Ireland commercial and other functional teams.

  • Support the Senior Legal Counsel EMEA in relating to commercial capex related matters.

  • Anticipate and address critical legal, business and ethical issues.

  • Work closely with the Senior Legal Counsel EMEA and other members of the EMEA Legal Department.

  • Advise and keep the Senior Legal Counsel EMEA updated on business management of critical projects in a timely manner and assist in reviewing all matters relating to compliance and financial reporting as appropriate.

  • Work closely with the UK and Ireland HR Department on general employment issues or other issues common to HR and Legal.

  • Plan and deliver risk-based training programs including interactions with HCPs, competition law, etc.

  • Effectively establish and manage relationships with UK and Ireland area and other external counsels.

 

Ideal profile:

  • 5+ years post-bar experience, ideally gained within a medical device/pharma or healthcare environment or with a top-tier law firm representing healthcare & technology clients.

  • Qualified to practice in England and Wales.

  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with initiative, adaptability and integrity.

  • Excellent communication skills, with strong but diplomatic presence.

  • Enjoys working in a challenging, fast paced and dynamic workplace.

  • Experience of working with multicultural teams.

  • Confident team player and ability to develop relationships and networks at all levels.

  • Proactive in identifying unmet needs/future challenges and proposing strategies to optimize outcomes.

  • Strong business acumen and ethical standards with the skills to influence and negotiate with key stakeholders.
